Project Description

Phase 1 of the Gilbert Regional Park development was completed in two phases, opening in 2019 and 2020. The first phase included the development of approximately 30 acres and includes sport courts, a splash pad, a lake, walking trails, two playgrounds, ramadas, a food truck alley, and an amphitheater with adjacent 10 acre lawn where some of Gilbert's largest community events are now held.

Phases 2 & 3 of Gilbert Regional Park will build-out and program the next 220 acres of this vibrant and bustling open space; including the remaining upper basin, and the basin south of the new Ocotillo Bridge (projected to be completed in Summer 2026). The future phases will continue the mix of multi-functional and diverse spaces and amenities found in Phase 1; with the addition of many programs and features most requested by the community in public outreach over the last year. Currently in the Pre-Design phase of the project, the program includes; sports fields, a dog park, skate park, pump track, shaded event spaces, park maintenance facilities, trails, and other active and passive recreational amenities with access to Ocotillo Road. These spaces will all function together to collect and carry stormwater and run-off into drainage swales and ultimately into water management areas in the southern Arroyo zone that will drain out to the East Maricopa Floodway. Using various techniques and scales of green infrastructure and low impact design, the goal is to move the water, filter the water, and use the water to support trees and habitat throughout the park. Extensive trails, fitness loops, and pathways throughout the park can utilize the resulting tree infrastructure for beauty and shade that weaves between the unique and active program spaces of the park.
