Household Hazardous Waste Facility

Know Before You Go

  • Residents must have a valid state or federal ID and Town of Gilbert utility bill.

  • Upon arriving to HHW, residents will remain in their vehicle while a technician verifies ID/utility bill – there will be signage directing residents where to go.

  • Residents will unload their own items onto a sanitized cart, unless assistance is needed.

  • HHW technicians will be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) while interacting with residents.

Closed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday
Closed on Town-Observed Holidays

Short temporary closures may also occur for material processing.

Note: Hazardous waste drop-off is available to Gilbert residents only, the swap shop is available to the public.
For the safety of our technicians please box and contain all items. Do not bring materials in garbage bags.

This 4,000 square foot facility is a place where Gilbert residents can safely dispose of many household hazardous waste materials. We take everything from paint to pool chemicals and many things in between. These products should be household in nature and quantity. There is a limit of 10 gallons on any single liquid type.

Over 90% of the material collected is reused or recycled through one of our vendors or our on-site Paint Reuse Program.

Safety precautions to follow

  • Do not mix different materials together in the same container
  • Keep batteries separate from all other materials 
  • Do not bag or box light bulbs with any other materials
  • Keep products in original containers with legible labels
  • Place containers in cardboard boxes or plastic totes with lids securely fastened for safe transport

  • Automobile tires without rims (5 tire limit per year)
  • Automotive fuels and fluids*
  • Camping cylinders (limit 20)
  • Cooking oil*
  • E-Waste: TVs (Flat Screen Only), Laptops, computer cell phones, and printers
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Fluorescent light bulbs (CFL's, HID, Neon) 
  • Herbicides and pesticides*
  • Household cleaners*
  • Paints and stains-latex and oil based*
  • Pool chemicals
  • Propane tanks (standard bbq size)
  • Scrap metal
  • Smoke detectors/thermostats
  • Very small appliances (without Freon)
*There is a limit of 10 gallons of any single liquid type per day. Oil/gas/coolant containers returned upon request.
  • Business/commercial hazardous waste of any kind
  • Large appliances: contact customer service at (480) 503-6400 for White Goods pickup
  • Small appliances: place in trash bin
  • Electronics: CRT TVs, microwaves, and vacuums. Place out with your bulk trash.
  • Asbestos 
  • Automobile tires with rims
  • Explosives and ammunition
  • Medical sharps
  • Prescription drugs**
  • Trash/Recycle (Black or Blue can items)
  • Radioactive material
  • 55 gallon drums of material

No containers over 5 gallons will be accepted.

** Gilbert offers 24 hour prescription drug drop-off boxes at these Gilbert Police Department locations.

Since opening in July 2007 through December 2023, we have served more than 128,215 residents. With their help we have diverted over 7,700,000 pounds of material from our landfills! We have also remixed and given 89,750 gallons of paint back to the community for home projects.

In 2023 alone we:

  • Served more than 10,981 customers
  • Collected 600,955 pounds of material
  • Collected 99,679 pounds of E-waste
  • Remixed and distributed 6805 gallons of paint
