Before you even get the chance to create a purposeful work experience, you’ve got to get great talent in the door. Hiring is your opportunity to have an exponential impact on our success, our culture, and our future. Hire to elevate the organization and your team. Hire people who will teach you something and raise our average. Hire people who not only fit our culture, but will enrich it.

Consider the following questions as you evaluate candidates:

  1. Would I want to work for this person?
  2. Would this person be someone I could learn from? Would they up my game?
  3. Would I kick myself if I let this person take their talents to work for a competitor?
  4. Would this person contribute to our culture in a positive way?
  5. Would this person be an awesome public servant?

Just like positive hires up our game, a bad hire can do damage. We know it’s really tempting to hire based on skills and experience alone, especially when you need to fill a position yesterday. It’s tempting, but it’s wrong. Always. Understand that when you skimp on culture, you risk our future.

Recruiting is a team sport at Gilbert. It’s expected that you assemble diverse interview panels composed of people from different departments, backgrounds, and experiences. Our People Team will help you through the recruiting process, so don’t worry about having it all figured out right now. We just want to make sure you know what to expect.

Good hiring practices are important because our people decide our culture, which is one of the drivers of employee engagement.
