The Town of Gilbert receives HOME Investment Partnership Funds (HOME) as a member of the Maricopa County HOME Consortium. The HOME Consortium is made up of the following cities and towns:
City of Avondale, City of Chandler, Town of Gilbert, City of Glendale, City of Peoria, City of Scottsdale,
City of Surprise and City of Tempe
HOME funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and are used to fund a wide range of activities including building, buying, and/or rehabilitation affordable housing for rent or homeownership or providing rental assistance to low-income people.
The intent is to expand available affordable housing for low and moderate income persons by:
1) Provide decent, affordable housing to lower income households
2) Expand the capacity of nonprofit housing providers
3) Strengthen the ability of state and local governments to provide housing
4) Leverage private sector participation
Gilbert currently invests the allocated HOME funds in the acquisition and rehabilitation of single-family housing units which are then utilized as affordable rental units. Gilbert contracts with ARM of Save the Family to assist in the process including selecting tenants for the rental properties.
