The Town of Gilbert has a diverse and resilient water resources portfolio consisting of surface water, reclaimed water, and groundwater. Gilbert combines these water resources to strategically meet the needs of the community both now and for the future.

Gilbert has a 100-year Assured Water Supply designation from the State that has been developed to provide a continuous and sustainable water supply. The long-term strategic plan is to develop renewable surface water supplies and reduce reliance on local groundwater supplies.

Gilbert's Water Breakdown: CAP is 41%, SRP is 40%, Reclaimed & Recharged is 15% and Safe Yield Groundwater is 4%.

Gilbert acquires supplies before the demands occur, meaning that Gilbert hasn’t yet grown into the full use of its supplies.

Having excess supply has allowed Gilbert to prepare for shortages through recharging (storing water underground for the future) Colorado River water and reclaimed water. Recharging helps maintain groundwater levels and provides a reserve supply that can be used during shortages. To date, Gilbert has recharged approximately 200 billion gallons of water (over 9 times the annual water use) and currently has the second largest balance of storage credits among cities within the Phoenix Active Management Area.
