Are you looking for fun ways to spice up your daily lessons, and learn more about your community? The Town of Gilbert offers these activity book you can download for free and use in classrooms, homes, car rides, and camps to keep kids busy while they learn about our desert environment.
They contain an exciting variety of classroom activities for a wide range of grades and ages. Students get to learn all about how we manage stormwater in the desert and the environmental impacts that pollution has on stormwater systems.
Stormwater in the Desert
This book is geared towards kids ages 10 and up with activities ranging from creative writing to algebra and a little bit of everything between.

Desert Stormwater Discoveries
This activity book is new as of 2022 and has activities for kids as young as 5, including word puzzles, fill in the blanks, and even coloring while on a nature walk. Kids can also interact with QR codes in the book using a smart device with a camera that leads them to additional online activities.
Hands on Activities and Experiments
The activities below are individual selections from the above Teacher guide that are fun and easy way to practice some hands on learning with things you likely already have around the house. Water Cycle in a Bag Try this activity for a simple way to better understand the water cycle.
Know Your Watershed: Do you know what a watershed is? Check out pages 9-15 in the activity book to learn more about our Arizona Watersheds, then build your own!
Rain Drop Races As you learn more about storms and water in Arizona explore how our ever changing landscape impacts the way water flows in our community. Try rain drop races to make this concept fun and competitive!
Understand Your Urban Watershed Now it's time to take everything you have learned about Arizona storms and apply to your own neighborhood. Take a stroll outside and use these worksheets to explore the storm drainage systems in your neighborhood. Find out just exactly where all of that water is going when it rains, and why it is so important to minimize pollution!
