Redevelopment (RD) Capital Improvement Projects include projects within Gilbert’s Downtown Heritage District. The Heritage District is a Redevelopment Area with an adopted plan which guides the redevelopment of the area to achieve the community’s vision for the downtown.

The Heritage District was established as a Redevelopment Area in 1989 and the first Gilbert Heritage District Redevelopment Plan was initially adopted in 1991 and subsequently updated in 2001, 2008, and most recently in 2018. The Redevelopment Plan includes a long-term vision for the build-out of the Heritage District with goals and tactics to achieve the community’s ultimate vision for the downtown.

To implement the Redevelopment Plan successfully, substantial short and long-term capital investments are necessary. Redevelopment projects are added to the Town of Gilbert’s 10-Year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to plan for future growth and infrastructure improvements.
