The Gilbert Police Department’s School Resource Officer (SRO) program is comprised of twelve SROs and two Sergeants. Gilbert has twelve traditional school district schools, seven high schools, and five junior highs.

Gilbert Public Schools, Chandler Unified School District, and Higley Unified School District each have schools within Gilbert's boundaries with permanently assigned SROs.

The SRO’s primary goals are:

  • Ensuring the safety of all people on and around school grounds
  • Establishing rapport with students to better engage with and provide assistance to those students
  • Teaching classes in various law enforcement related subjects
  • Enforcing the law while working directly with School Administration
  • Communicating with parents and working school-related extra-duty assignments (dances, sporting events, parent nights, etc.)

Gilbert PD, the SROs, and each of the three districts all believe schools are a bastion of safety, education, and growth for students within an ever-changing world, and the SROs are committed to keeping each of their schools protected and as safe as possible.

All three school districts in Gilbert have online or tip lines available for students to report safety concerns anonymously. Any student or parent with concerns about safety at school are asked to contact Gilbert PD or their designated school tip line
