 GYLA Spring Group Graduation 

  • Classes taught have included public speaking, active listening, college and career preparation, social media awareness, and conflict resolution
  • Teaching students about teamwork, communication, and community involvement through classes and activities
  • Activities have included an escape room, rock climbing, broom ball, airsoft, laser tag, top golf, and a service project among others
  • Geared for students between 10th and 11th grade attending high schools in Gilbert
  • Led by School Resource Officers from the Gilbert Police Department
  • Students are selected in collaboration with the SRO by administration, counselors, and other school staff
  • We encourage students to contact their SRO to learn more about the academy
  • Food and Transportation provided by the police department, absolutely no cost to the student
  • Academy is held at the Gilbert Public Safety Training Facility where students are also given a tour of the facility and an opportunity to take part in some of the activities that police recruits participate in during the academy like the VirTra training simulator below:

  • Two academies held during the summer, four days each session
  • Participants receive a certificate of completion along with a challenge coin during the graduation ceremony at the conclusion of the academy
