Youth and Scout Programs 

The Riparian Preserve has a variety of programs available for scout and other youth groups. The content for many of the activities has been designed to help meet Girl Scout badge requirements but may be reserved by any youth group.

All activities include a selection of hands-on activities and guided walk through the Preserve (<1 mile). Programs may be reserved on their own or as an addition to an overnight camping reservation. Programs are not endorsed by Girl Scouts of the USA.

Private Group Naturalist Tours

Our staff will provide a unique experience in nature for your group. Be it a social group, work group, or an outing with extended family, you are sure to enjoy your guided exploration of the Gilbert Riparian Preserve. The content is suitable for all ages and abilities*.

*Please note that the trails in the Preserve are made of compacted dirt and feature slight inclines in some sections. While powerchairs and wheelchairs can generally navigate these trails with ease, other assistive devices, like walkers, may face more challenges.

The Naturalist Tour consists of a 1-1.5 hour, roughly 1 mile walk through the Riparian Preserve. Staff will provide binoculars and guide participants through the park teaching about its history, identifying the plants and animals, and discussing the unique ecological value of this urban nature preserve.

Private tours may be booked on their own or as an addition to an overnight camping reservation.

Fees and Scheduling

Scout Programs and Private Tours are available October – April

• Wednesdays: 3:30 – 5:00 PM
• Saturdays: 10:00 – 11:30 AM, 12:00 - 1:30 PM, 3:00-4:30 PM

Tours must be reserved a minimum of 3 weeks prior to the requested date, up to six months in advance. Other time slots may be available, dependent on staff availability.

Recreation Classes at the Riparian Preserve

Recreation classes are offered at the Riparian Preserve throughout the year for people of all ages. This includes parent/tot classes, workshops, camps, and more. To learn more about current offerings, or register for a program, visit gilbertrecreation.com and search “riparian”.

Overnight Camping
