Who are we?

Park Rangers are a division within the Park and Recreation Department for Gilbert, Arizona. A Ranger's purpose is to provide a safe and positive experience for visitors to our parks, trails, and recreation events. We strive to protect park resources and encourage ordinance adherence through regular and routine park patrols. Our goal is to provide a rapid response to calls for service from park patron and assist with distressed animal concerns.

Park Ranger Mission: To protect and preserve park resources, recreation opportunities and facilities that enhance the quality of life for Gilbert residents and visitors through public education and enforcement of park rules.

2023 Accomplishments

Authority and Training

Gilbert Park Rangers are not law enforcement officers, but do have authority under Town Code to issue park warnings & civil citations. In addition to ongoing in-service training, all staff within the Park Ranger program complete a four-week Park Ranger New Hire Academy.

Training topics include proactive engagement, de-escalation, communication, defensive measures, emergency response and more. Our training regimen emphasizes dignity and respect while promoting core values of professionalism and ethics.

Gilbert Park Rangers regularly partner with Arizona Game & Fish as well as Gilbert Police and Fire to problem-solve issues in parks that are beyond the scope of park rule violations. For example, criminal activity, and/or any life safety issue that a person would typically call 911 for.
