Take CHARGE of Battery Safety, Gilbert.

Lithium-ion batteries are the most common type of rechargeable batteries on the market. They are found in cell phones, wheelchairs, power tools, e-bikes, e-scooters, electric vehicles and more.

If they become physically damaged or are not used and stored properly, lithium-ion batteries have the potential to overheat, catch fire, and cause explosions.

Most commonly, lithium-ion battery fires are caused by:

  • Overcharging
  • Completely draining the battery
  • Exposure to excessive heat, cold, or water

The Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department is asking the community to Take CHARGE of battery safety to help reduce the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries.

 Here's how you can help:

  • Register your Battery Energy Storage System.  Knowing the presence and location of these items is vital information for our first responders.  It helps minimize the risk of injuries in the event of a house fire and assists our crews in their effort to reduce property damage.
