Potential candidates for the Gilbert Fire & Rescue Departments Cadet Program must meet the following criteria: 

• Must be 18 years of age at the time of application
• Must possess a valid AZ Drivers License
• Must have a High School Diploma or GED
• Must have a current DPS Fingerprint Card
  • Apply for a Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Must pass a background check post selection
• Proof of completion of physician sports physical
• Each candidate must pass a firefighter-style written exam, interview panel, and physical ability assessment

Gilbert Fire & Rescue Cadets have the unique opportunity to gain knowledge and build relationships with sworn firefighters. 

 Mentorship opportunities include:

• Skills courses
• Oral Interview Prep
• Test Prep
• Ride-alongs with engine companies, ladder companies, and ambulance personnel
• Several skill-based classes
• Assigned sworn mentorship

Cadets will participate in a variety of firefighter skill trainings.

Trainings include:

• Working in Turn Outs
• Using SCBA's
• Hose Management
• Search & Rescue 
• Vehicle Extrication
