Our Mission
To protect the lives, property, and environment of the people who live, work, play, and travel in Gilbert by:
- Serving with integrity, trust and respect;
- Rapid and effective emergency response;
- Innovative prevention, compliance, and community outreach efforts;
- Maintenance of a highly trained and dedicated work force.
The Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department (GFRD) consists of more than 250 dedicated and well-trained individuals who are passionately focused on protecting and serving those who reside in and visit Gilbert.
GFRD delivers an all-hazards emergency services model, as well as several community-oriented programs. No matter where you are in Gilbert, GFRD’s strategically located fire stations ensure that help is just a few minutes away.
GFRD is a member of the Regional Automatic Aid System which is a deployment alliance that provides the closest most appropriate fire department response unit regardless of jurisdictional boundaries. Through an inter-governmental agreement GFRD also provides emergency services to the Gilbert County Island Fire District.
Benefitting from the dedication and hard work of our employees and volunteers, GFRD is recognized as a leading fire service organization. GFRD is internationally accredited through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. To become accredited, agencies must complete a strategic self-assessment, develop continuous quality improvement initiatives and present the conclusions to a commission of fire service leaders.
In addition, GFRD was awarded Class 1 Public Protection Classification by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) in 2019. Every five years ISO conducts an evaluation of Gilbert’s fire protection capabilities and assigns a classification of 1 – 10, with Class 1 being the highest ranking. These classifications are utilized by most insurers to establish homeowner and business insurance premiums.
GFRD is one of only 113 fire departments in the country to be both accredited and have an ISO Class 1 designation, which is in the top one-half of one percent nationally.
