Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs

Arizona Department of Health Services
The Arizona Department of Health Services promotes and protects the health of Arizona’s children and adults. AZDHS strives to set the standard for personal and community health through direct care, science, public policy, and leadership. The department operates programs in the following areas:
- Disease prevention and control
- Health promotion
- Community public health
- Environmental health
- Maternal and child health
- Emergency preparedness
- Regulation of childcare centers, assisted living centers, nursing homes, hospitals, other health care providers, and emergency services.
Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management
Emergency Management protects communities by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other man-made disasters.
MCDEM provides on-going planning to prevent and prepare for large-scale emergencies in Maricopa County. On a daily basis MCDEM:
- Assist in the uninterrupted and consistent operation of government for Maricopa County and its cities, towns and fire districts.
- Conduct training, drills and exercises for natural, man-made, and technological threats and hazards.
- Coordinate off-site planning for the Palo Verde Generating Station (PVGS) in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (DEMA).
- Develop and maintain Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs) and Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) for Maricopa County and its cities, towns and fire districts.
- Develop and maintain the Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP), a preventative plan to reduce the risk to people and property.
- Maintain and test communications and warning systems to ensure rapid and accurate notifications.
- Provide preparedness information to residents of Maricopa County via public outreach events and social media
- Coordinate response and recovery activities during and after emergencies.
Maricopa County Public Health
Maricopa County Public Health is to protect and promote the health and well-being of all residents and visitors. This means providing you and your family with protection from the health threats such as food-borne illnesses, natural and man-made disasters, toxic exposures, and preventable injury. Public Health also works to prevent chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes by addressing their risk factors: poor nutrition, inadequate physical activity, and tobacco use.
