Since the completion of the last Transportation Master Plan in 2014, Gilbert has seen major changes its in land use, population, and transportation system. Building on the previous Transportation Master Plan, this Plan will reexamine how we use our transportation system today and tomorrow and develop an action plan for future transportation investments to support community growth over the next two decades.

Ultimately, the Plan will:

• Outline policies and projects that protect and enhance quality of life in Gilbert;
• Analyze current and projected transportation conditions;
• Create a plan for what the transportation system might look like in 2045;
• Reflect community values and protects what makes Gilbert a great place to live;
• Balance the needs of drivers, transit users, freight movement, trail riders, and people who walk and bicycle; and
• Guide our Town’s transportation investments for the next 25 years.

The Transportation Master Plan represents one common vision for Gilbert’s transportation system and is intended to provide guidance for all Gilbert residents, business owners, developers, and Town staff. Here’s how the Transportation Master Plan will affect you:

• I’m a Resident: The Transportation Master Plan will develop a connected, high-quality multimodal network, making travel more convenient and comfortable for you.
• I’m a Business Owner: The Transportation Master Plan will develop a network for connected, multimodal networks to provider your employees, patrons, and goods accessible routes to get to your business.
• I’m a Developer: The Transportation Master Plan will inform street design guidelines, which will provide you with guidance for your development projects.
• I’m Gilbert Town Staff: The Transportation Master Plan will be your playbook for developing, prioritizing, and funding improvements to the Town’s transportation system over the next 20 years.
• I’m a Staff Member at Another Agency: The Transportation Master Plan will outline the short- and long-term vision for Gilbert’s transportation system, informing your planning and programming process.

The Transportation Master Plan update is scheduled to be completed in March 2022 and follows a multi-phased planning process.

A draft of the new plan will be presented to the Gilbert Town Council for approval prior to implementation.

The Transportation Master Plan will focus primarily on improvements to the transportation system within the Town. There will be considerations made; however, to advancing transportation options and connectivity to neighboring communities.
