 Backflow Tester / Contractor Information

The Backflow Prevention Department is obligated to protect its public water supply from the possibility of contamination or pollution by enacting and enforcing a Cross-Connection Control program. The program is administered through the revised statues set forth by the Arizona State Administrative Code R18-4-215, Town of Gilbert Muni-Code, Chapter 10, Article III, and International Plumbing Code. Backflow Prevention administers a containment (backflow assembly placement at water meter), and internal (point of use) Cross-Connection Control program on all commercial water users. Internal backflow prevention assemblies are only required on water supply lines that pose a contamination threat by the Department.

Backflow is the undesirable reversal flow of water or mixtures of water with other liquids, gases or other substances into the distribution pipes of the potable supply of water from any source or sources. This process could either occur from back-siphonage or backpressure.
