Gilbert, AZ - The Gilbert Police Department arrested 26-year-old Warren Ishmael Bethel on Thursday, January 5th, for charges related to his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, August 28, 2022.
Gilbert police officers had responded to the Sandbar Mexican Grill, where witnesses reported a fight had broken out in the parking lot and a subject had fired multiple shots and drove away.
Officers did not locate any shooting victims at the scene, but were later notified of a 27-year-old shooting victim who was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation and analysis of collected evidence led investigators to Bethel, who was arrested and booked into the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for the following charges:
- A.R.S. § 13-1104(A)(3) - Attempted 2nd Degree Murder
- A.R.S. § 13-1209(A) - Drive-by Shooting
- A.R.S. § 13-3107(A) - Discharge of a Firearm within City Limits
- A.R.S. § 13-2904(A)(6) - Disorderly Conduct with a Deadly Weapon
- A.R.S. § 13-1201(A) - Endangerment
- A.R.S. § 13-1204(A)(2) - Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On August 28, 2022, at about 2:20 AM, Gilbert PD responded to a shots fired call for service at the Sandbar Mexican Grill. Witnesses told officers that a large altercation broke out which led to multiple shots being fired in the restaurant parking lot by suspects in a vehicle before they fled the scene.
Officers at the scene were unable to locate any shooting victims, but a short time later, were notified by a local hospital that a 27-year-old male shooting victim with non-life-threatening injuries had been admitted for treatment.
Gilbert PD detectives responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation.
