Design is nearing completion, and construction is expected to begin in Winter 2024/2025, take about 9-12 months to complete.

A public meeting was held on Jan. 24, 2023 for nearby residents to learn about the project and provide their feedback.  Exhibits from that meeting are provided below:

What are sewer stub outs?  Will I have to connect to the Town sewer?

A sewer stub out is a connection to the main sewer line, in Mesquite Street, stubbed out at each property. Property owners will not be required to connect to the Town sewer; however, should they want to connect, the owner can contact the Utility Department and follow the standard procedure for a new sewer connection. County properties are not able to connect into the Town sewer unless the property is annexed into the Town of Gilbert. 

This is being done to prevent cutting into the new pavement should someone in the future want to connect to the Town’s sewer.

Will the speed humps be re-installed?

No. Other traffic calming measures, such as chicanes and raised crosswalks, will be installed to help mitigate speeding. 

What is a traffic calming chicane?

Chicanes are a series of curb islands in the roadway, which help reduce vehicular speeds by requiring motorists to maneuver around the curb islands.

What about my mailbox if I live along Mesquite?  

The Town of Gilbert team is working with the postmaster to determine the final location of mailboxes.

Where will I place my trash cans and bulk trash after the project is complete?

Trash can be placed in the street within the on-street parking lane.

How will on-street parking be accommodated? 

Based on resident feedback from the January 2023 public meeting, the project team explored providing on-street parking on Mesquite Street and will be able to provide on-street parking.

On-street parking will be accommodated by providing an 8’ wide area adjacent to the travel lane on both sides of Mesquite Street for on-street parking. The 6’ bike lane and 6’ sidewalk will be combined into an 8’ sidewalk behind curb, and the travel lanes will be narrowed slightly to provide the needed space for the on-street parking. As a result of the added on-street parking, the planned concrete pads for residential trash bins will not be installed, since trash bins can be accommodated in the on-street parking area. All improvements will continue to be within the existing public right-of-way.
