Program Details

The Green Gilbert Business Partners Program consists of a tiered accountability structure that provides Gilbert businesses opportunity for increased responsibility and participation. Our “Green Team” will help you prioritize changes that will have the biggest impact and work with you to find additional sustainability actions that fit your organizational goals to meet certification requirements. Stormwater Pollution Prevention

While most of the work in your operation may take place indoors, it can be the actions taken outdoors that have the biggest impact on our environment. Outdoor storage areas and surfaces can harbor pathogens and debris that cause stormwater contamination when it rains. Things such as leaking dumpsters, uncontained litter, and grease deposits can enter the storm drain system and make their way to local waterways and parks. The stormwater and pollution prevention requirements of our program will give your team the tools and knowledge to prevent the contamination of our water resources.

Water Conservation

Water is precious here in the desert. Efficient water use among businesses and other local organizations is an essential component of becoming a Green Gilbert Partner. Green Gilbert participants will receive an evaluation from our Water Conservation team that may include looking at indoor water fixtures, checking for leaks, or performing an audit on the landscape. Partners may also receive a landscape water budget as well as recommendations for reducing domestic water use. Green Gilbert Partners may also be eligible to participate in Water Wise Gilbert.

Waste Reduction

Minimizing waste is an important part of maintaining a sustainable business model. Green Gilbert requires all participants to explore recycling options to reduce landfill waste. Reducing waste can also include working with customers to encourage their own good practices.

Green Gilbert Businesses are expected to have some type of recycling available for patrons or business generated waste. If your business does not currently participate in a recycling program you must receive a quote from your hauler to add recycling to your regular waste bill. Gilbert Commercial Solid Waste Service would love the opportunity to provide your business with a quote for service, including cardboard and commingled recycling options.

Waste Water Protections

All restaurants are regularly inspected by our wastewater pretreatment inspectors. These inspections are to protect wastewater infrastructure from the impacts of grease and debris. Poorly maintained grease traps can result in costly and hazardous sanitary sewer overflows. All Green Gilbert Businesses must maintain their wastewater systems per the standards of our pretreatment team.
