You're invited to join the Gilbert Leadership Class 31 for the reveal of the new Gilbert Hope Walk Trail at the Riparian Preserve on Saturday, May 6 at 10:00 AM. Bring your walking shoes to enjoy the trail after the ribbon cutting!
This goal of this service project was to put words to action in addressing mental health in the community.
The Hope Walk is a collaboration with the Gilbert Parks & Recreation department, the Gilbert Parks & Recreation Foundation and the Gilbert Leadership Program thanks to the supportive efforts of several community stakeholders including Envision Painting, Grainger, DeBellevue Global, FAST signs, to name a few.
The Gilbert Hope Walk is a fully accessible .75 mile loop within the Gilbert Riparian that includes three main features. Visitors along the HOPE Walk will see the following waypoints:
- Abstractly designed, positivity pylons which offer positive messaging and visual beauty folded into the desert landscape.
- Desert-toned mental health tips intended to offer inspiring and realistic ways to promote positive mental well-being.
- A cheerful and desert inspired HOPE mural, near the midpoint of the trail, hand-painted by Gilbert Leadership Class #31.
Preceding the HOPE Walk construction and opening, Gilbert Leadership Class #31 also held a FREE (QPR) suicide prevention training for community adults and youth, and created 100 HOPE Kits containing mental health resources and positive message signs for community businesses and school, for distribution at the May 6th Community Reveal event.
