Butterflies and Dragonflies for Beginners

The Gilbert Riparian Preserve is home to a wide variety of butterflies, dragonflies, and damselflies. Join Laurie Nessel from the Maricopa Audubon Society on a walk to learn to identify local butterflies including Painted Lady, Queen, and Fiery Skipper as well as common dragonflies and damselflies such as Western Pondhawk, Flame Skimmer, Blue-ringed Dancer, and Familiar Bluet. Participants will each receive a full color identification checklist.

This is an easy, slow-paced walk lasting 1-1.5 hours. All ages are welcome. The group will meet at the Rattlesnake Ramada. Bring binoculars (close-focus preferred) if they are available to you. Please bring water and wear sun protection, including a hat.

Pre-registration is required, register here. The class fee is $2 per person.
